Painting Story:

I originally created this as a commission that was not completed. I took the prompt and expanded on it and fell in love with the result. What it ended up meaning to me is the strength and beauty of portraying a black man. One of my biggest male role models is my father who I see as a beautiful man of wisdom who has been an amazing mentor, a good example, and my best friend.

The portrayal of Black men in popular media has been a subject of controversy and concern for many years. Historically, Black men have often been depicted as dangerous, violent, and hypersexualized in movies, television shows, and other forms of entertainment.

These negative stereotypes have contributed to a culture of fear and mistrust around Black men, and have led to widespread discrimination and violence against them. In recent years, there have been efforts to challenge and dismantle these stereotypes through various forms of media, including film, television, and literature.

Some Black filmmakers and artists have sought to portray Black men in a more nuanced and complex way, highlighting their humanity, creativity, and resilience in the face of adversity. They have also worked to combat harmful stereotypes and to promote greater understanding and empathy between different communities.

At the same time, there are still many challenges and obstacles to overcome in terms of improving the portrayal of Black men in popular media. This requires a concerted effort on the part of creators, producers, and consumers to challenge negative stereotypes, to promote more diverse and inclusive representations of Black men, and to support and uplift Black voices and perspectives in all areas of media and entertainment.
